Roland Reads Jr.: Independent Reading Program
For Students in Grades K-3
The Kindergarten, First, Second, and Third grade students will begin their own independent reading program. It is an extension of the
highly successful ROLAND READS independent reading program for grades 4-6.
All students are encouraged to participate in the Pizza Hut BOOK IT program. When they have met their classroom goal for the
number of books to be read each month, they will receive a certificate for a free personal pan pizza.
Along with that reward, students will earn their name on Roland Reads Jr. Hall Wall. Kindergarten through Third grade students’
names will be proudly displayed on our READING Beehives outside the cafeteria. They will also receive various incentives from Mrs.
Gruber for achieving their goals throughout the year.
The idea is to teach children about the information and adventure they can find in books and assist in motivating them to become
lifelong readers.
Parents, we encourage you to get involved and read to and/or along with your child. This is quality time well-spent, and the kids will
get excited about reading, while gaining confidence in their ability!
